I have always contended that the best way to cook pork is in the slow cooker. I know most people like the barbecue but I really prefer to leave that for chicken and burgers. There’s nothing like pork that’s been brewing in its own juice for hours on end. Actually, there’s REALLY nothing like that pork slathered in barbecue sauce, topped with some coleslaw and served up on a bun.
Crock Pot Pulled Pork Sandwiches Recipe
Pork rump or shoulder
2 tablespoons onion powder
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons black pepper
3 cups barbecue sauce
5 cups coleslaw
Hamburger buns or bread
1. Coat the pork with onion powder, garlic powder and black pepper. Cook in crock pot on low 8-10 hours.

2. Remove pork from crock pot and shred with forks, throwing away large fatty pieces.

3. In a bowl, coat pork with barbecue sauce.

4. Make a sandwich using one bun and several spoonfuls of pulled pork and coleslaw.
I’m not normally a very “wing it” type of person, so this is one of those ever-changing family recipes that made me uncomfortable at first. It’s a little of this, a little of that – if you’re missing something like garlic powder just move on without it – substitue bread for buns if you want, feel free to use store-bought or homemade coleslaw or forego it altogether and if you’re out of barbecue sauce just mix up a bunch of ketchup and water with a few dashes of brown sugar, pepper, mustard and worcestershire sauce to your liking. Seriously, you can’t screw this up. And any extra pulled pork freezes really nicely.
