Baby Handprint Craft with X-TREME Glue

baby handprint craft

Crafting is one of my favorite pastimes, and I’ve always looked forward to making crafts with my children. I expected all my kids to come out of the womb bearing scissors and glue sticks, but Some Boy just doesn’t seem as interested in crafts as I do. He’s been alive for a whole month now, and still isn’t dazzled by the glitter and paper cut-outs I set before him. When I told him that we were going to make a #GlueNGlitter project using Elmer’s #xtremeschoolglue, he just made weird puckering faces in the direction of my boobs. How rude. Fortunately, this baby handprint craft is one he can participate in while he’s sound asleep!

Baby Handprint Craft

Supplies:
Elmer’s X-TREME school glue
Foam sheets in two opposing colors (I used black and white)
Mod Podge
Unfinished frame
Stamp ink
A few dozen photos, each approximately 1-inch tall (I made mine black and white)
Ribbon (optional, for hanging from wall)

baby craft photos

I cut out a few dozen photos approximately 1-inch tall of my baby’s first month of life.

I arranged the photos onto the unfinished frame…

To protect the photos from dust or fading, I applied a thin coat of Mod Podge over the top of them. Nate later pointed out that instead of Mod Podge, I probably could have applied some of the Elmer’s X-TREME glue over the top of the photos. Since it dries clear, it would likely have had the same effect. He’s always pointing out clever short cuts like that.

I took my baby’s handprint on the foam pieces using stamp ink while he was sleeping. I wiped the ink off of his hand promptly with a baby wipe so this project wouldn’t get too messy!

I cut his handprint out, flipped it over and applied Elmer’s X-TREME school glue to mount it onto another piece of foam, which I had cut into the size and shape of the frame opening. When this was dry, I inserted it into the frame opening.

Lastly, I glued a spare piece of ribbon onto the frame so I could hang it from the wall. X-TREME glue is strong enough that I didn’t need any staples – the glue alone held the ribbon in place!

I hung the finished project in our hallway near me and my husband’s wedding picture. This would also make an excellent Father’s Day gift or a present for the grandparents.

This project has been compensated as part of a craft recipe project using Elmer’s #collectivebias. All opinions are my own.

So clever, and a great way to preserve such a special memory! We made a frame like this for Mother’s Day and it was a huge hit :)

What a great idea! My son will be a year old in July and I have zero printed candid photos of him (although we have a few professional ones). Everything is online! I need to order prints, and this is an inspiring project!

I like this one. I don’t think my daughter’s hand print still fits in this size frame. But there are all sorts of alternatives popping in my head.

Thanks for your visit to the Northwoods on my SITS Day. Hanneke
