Upside Down Ice Cream Clown

ice cream clown cones

We had a bonafide ice cream social last weekend! We gathered all sorts of ice cream toppings for a carnival-themed ice cream party with our friends and family using First Street ice cream from Smart & Final. For a fun twist on the traditional ice cream party, we made ice cream clowns with vanilla ice cream, sugar cones, and toppings like marshmallows, maraschino cherries, sauces and shredded coconut.

I like to decorate with paper crafts like paper rosettes and DIY popcorn boxes. Paper crafts are cheap, easy-to-make, and help create a classic party atmosphere. I also made a fun welcome poster featuring a clown made with construction paper cut-outs.

Decorate the clown hat first by turning a cone upside down and attaching candy or sprinkles to it using melted marshmallows or frosting. Next, decorate the scoop of ice cream to look like a clown head with M&M eyes, a cherry or candy nose, and a mouth made with a Twizzler string. You can make hair with coconut flakes, nuts or marshmallows. I also like to create a clown collar with a dollop of whipped cream.

Some of our ice cream clowns ended up looking more like ice cream aliens, but everyone had a blast making them. This would be an awesome activity for a kid’s birthday party since it provides a fun, creative outlet and also results in a tasty treat! Just be sure to put down a table cloth…ice cream clowns can get a little bit messy.
