Asian Beef Recipe

Asian beef

Panda Express has this delicious Mongolian Beef recipe that I absolutely love, so I decided to try and make a copycat version at home. This recipe offers a home-cooked meal with all the flavor of my take-out favorite.

Asian Beef Recipe

Asian beef ingredients

1 lb top sirloin, sliced into thin strips
6 Tbsp cornstarch
6 Tbsp vegetable oil
1 tsp minced garlic
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced

Marinade
1 egg
1/4 tsp salt
2 Tbsp water
1 Tbsp cornstarch

Sauce
4 Tbsp water
4 Tbsp sugar
3 Tbsp ketchup
2 Tbsp vinegar
1/2 tsp chili powder
1 Tbsp crushed red chiles
2 tsp cornstarch

marinated asian beef

Mix the ingredients for the marinade and marinate the steak strips in a bag or covered bowl at room temperature for 20 minutes (or in the refrigerator overnight).

Asian beef sauce

While beef is marinating, combine sauce ingredients in a bowl.

Asian beef stir fry

Heat oil in a wok or large pain, coat beef in cornstarch and fry beef until lightly brown.

Asian beef stir fry

Add bell peppers to beef and stir-fry for two more minutes.

stir-fried beef and bell peppers

Add sauce and stir fry for another minute. Serve hot.

I love coming up with homemade versions of restaurant dishes. It’s a nice change from the norm and a good way to treat yourself without spending a fortune. I think a really fun potluck cook-off idea would be to have a group of people make copycat recipes and have judges taste-test them against the real thing and award prizes for whoever comes closest.

Good, but would reduce oil & amount of peppercorns, I like spicy but this was on the border of too much for my taste.

Thanks for the feedback! We definitely like our food spicy around here. In future recipes I’ll make a note to tone it down a tad for those who aren’t quite as wild about spice.
