Greek Yogurt Bon Bons Recipe

Nate and I have been obsessing over Game of Thrones lately. Once or twice a week a new DVD of episodes comes in from Netflix, and we celebrate with TV dinner and some Greek yogurt bon bons on the couch.

I know, dinner on the couch doesn't exactly conjure up images of marital bonding or supreme health, but we do things a bit differently. Nate has this adorably annoying tendency to pause episodes and pose questions with urgency as if our marriage depends on my answers. He wants to know how – if we were hypothetically in the situation of the TV characters – we might play things out. Although I can't envision any circumstances that would lead to us ever being in the middle of a Chronicles of Narnia-meets-The Tudors mystical land of throne lineage warfare, it's fun to imagine and it's our own version of Conversation Starters.

Greek Yogurt Bon Bons from Someday I'll Learn

Nate and I used to enjoy little ice cream bon bons with late-night TV sessions (before the kids came along) and I thought I'd try my hand at a healthier version of those since we're trying to lose weight but also don't want to lead totally boring lives that are barren of bon bons!

I used a melon-baller to scoop out tiny scoops of the frozen yogurt onto a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet.

The Greek yogurt that I got came in a package of three little snack cups, and it made about thirty mini greek frozen yogurt balls.

melting chocolate

I opted for a honey-flavored frozen Greek yogurt, since I thought that would be best coated in a chocolate shell. Nate doesn't like fruit with his chocolate. I've been really enjoying dark chocolate-covered honeycomb lately from the natural food store nearby. Honey and chocolate make a great combination!

Adding coconut oil to the chocolate chips help them melt smoothly and gives the bon bons a nice hard, shiny coat when they dry.

I've used this coconut oil-chocolate combination to coat everything from strawberries to graham crackers, but I have to say that frozen greek yogurt has been my favorite chocolate project so far!

Let the Greek yogurt bon bons dry on the parchment paper briefly before putting in a bowl to serve as tasty little snacks. They're great on the couch OR at the table, and they're a good way to keep a healthy diet on track without your family getting bored.
