Travel Cribs Save Parents’ Sanity, One Vacation at a Time

| |

UPDATE: It's been 6 years since I published this and I still use the Babybjörn Travel Crib Light constantly. It is SO light and easy to unpack, and it's stood the test of time. Seriously, get it.

The easiest travel crib, hands-down. We've taken this one on 40+ road trips over 4 years with three different babies, and it's my go-to baby shower present for expectant parents.

The first time I took Some Boy out of town with me was to my grandparents' house. I didn't even think about travel cribs at the time, which I ended up paying for that first night. Some Boy was already crawling at the time so it was a bit of a scramble trying to figure out where to put him. What if he woke up in the middle of the night and crawled away? We ended up stashing him in a corner that we somehow managed to section off with one of the dog gates. The next time around, I invested in one of the most expensive travel cribs on the market…which ended up being ridiculously bulky and taking up almost our entire trunk. I was about ready to just give up on the whole travel thing altogether.

The best in travel cribs: Babybjörn Travel Crib Light

And then I found this lifesaver, the Babybjörn Travel Crib Light. I'm convinced it's absolutely one of the best travel cribs on the market.

What's that you say? That little thing doesn't look like any travel cribs you've seen? I know. I said the exact same thing. It looks like a very small piece of luggage. And then you open it up and it looks like a small bedding set with perhaps a folding chair in the middle.

Yeah, I'm still not buying the idea that this little black thing and that little mattress pad miraculously turns into one of the most-raved-about travel cribs ever. But I press on, pulling up the legs and placing the mattress pad inside the contraption and…

Voila!

Check out my full setup video above. And you can get a glimpse of my huge, pregnant belly while you're at it. Lucky you!

This thing has a shocking amount of room. I got it with the intention of using it on some travels with the newborn, but I could totally fit Some Boy's 30+ pounds in here, no problem! It's sturdy enough that I could bring it somewhere with the whole family and not worry about the toddler or puppy jostling it or turning it upside down with the baby in it.

And as an added bonus: the fabric material is all totally washable. And did I mention that the mattress pad comes with a waterproof cover? I'm sold on the Babybjörn Travel Crib Light…definitely the best in the overly-complicated market of travel cribs. No fancy flashing lights or patterns or accessories. Just simple, easy functionality. Which is exactly what every on-the-go parent needs.

Have you used travel cribs with your kids? Which one was your favorite?

  1. I don’t know what I would have done without a travel crib. This one looks so easy to set up! Much more so than the one I used.

  2. This looks amazing to travel with! It would be so helpful to have something like this (especially over the holidays when we are visiting family).

  3. would lOVE to win one b/c I have to get 2 as I have twins and my *&^()! husband tossed our first pack n play b/c, well, it was annoyingly heavy. So, we are def in the market!
